London, 12 June 2026 – Telecel Group’s digital learning platform, Startocode, is expanding across Africa, widening access to coding, digital skills including AI education for young people as demand for technology-focused learning grows on the continent.
Startocode is a multilingual, self-paced platform that combines interactive lessons, hands-on projects, and mentorship, giving learners practical skills in web development, Python programming, data analytics, cloud computing, AI and digital entrepreneurship.
Since its launch in May 2025, the platform has attracted learners across Telecel’s operating markets, including Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, and the Central African Republic. It is now expanding into the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia, reflecting growing demand for digital skills and technology-enabled careers among young Africans.
Telecel’s largest commitment remains in Ghana, where Startocode supports the Government’s One Million Coders Programme. Under an MoU signed with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations in December 2025, Telecel is providing free access to the platform to help train 100,000 young Ghanaians over four years.
In May 2026, the programme expanded further when Telecel Group and the Government of Guinea-Bissau signed a joint decree establishing a national committee to coordinate Startocode’s rollout, bringing together the ministries responsible for education, youth, women and social solidarity, and telecommunications. Under the initiative, 1,000 young people will be trained annually over four years in programming, data analysis, and cloud computing, with a deliberate focus on women and persons with disabilities.
Commenting on the programme’s expansion, Telecel Group Chief Executive Officer, Moh Damush, said:
“Africa’s future will be shaped by the talent and ambition of its young people. We believe technology should do more than connect devices, it should connect people to opportunity. Through Startocode, we are helping young Africans gain the skills to build their own future and contribute to the growth of their communities.”
Startocode forms part of Telecel Group’s broader commitment to digital inclusion, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Alongside the Africa Startup Initiative Program (ASIP), it reflects the Group’s belief that investing in talent is one of the most effective ways to contribute to Africa’s long-term prosperity.
Telecel Group plans to bring Startocode to more of its markets, widening access for young Africans across the continent.
